Word Cup 2025 is right around the corner
These big summer championship events have a way of creeping up on you. Or at least they do on me, anyway.
One day it's January - you're minding your own business, trudging through cold and snowy day after day. Maybe you treat yourself and escape to New Orleans for a weekend. Then the spring rolls around - maybe you play another tournament or two. Then Memorial Day hits, and summer is upon you, and all of a sudden, the big tournament is almost here.
Word Cup 2025 is now less than two months away. To be precise, seven weeks from right now, we'll be midway through the tournament. We're getting mighty close to go time. I can almost taste the St. Louis-style BBQ.
This tournament has been a long time coming. The process began way back in April of 2024 - our team got together to plan the event, chose St. Louis as our host city, and vetted a handful of different venues before settling on the Union Station Hotel. We announced the tournament at the previous Word Cup, back in July, and we've spent the months since preparing, figuring out logistics, lining up staff, and most importantly recruiting you all, the players, to come and play. Now, after all of that, tournament time is finally right around the corner.
Here's where things stand now:
We are psyched to welcome everyone to St. Louis the first week of August. St. Louis is going to be a great host city, and the Union Station Hotel is the perfect venue - elegant, spacious, and centrally located in the heart of STL.
The field for CSW is looking ridiculously strong, and ridiculously deep, too. As of this writing, we have 33 players signed up for Division 1, including a bevy of past national and world champions, and 24 on the list for Division 2 as well. This group is stacked at every level.
We've got a great team of people coming together to help run the event and cover it. Nits Chagti has signed on as a co-director, and she'll be on site all week to ensure things run smoothly. And on the streaming side, we've got the dream team back together - Christian and Andrew Kay will be producing the show, and Will Anderson will be there live to give his commentary, alongside a rotating cast of partners.
At this point, things are mostly ready to go - it's just a matter of tying up a few loose ends in our tournament plans. Registration is still open for now, but it's best to act soon - the entry fee increases by $50 for any stragglers who enter after July 8, and then the tournament is closed entirely after July 25.
So get ready! August is almost here. Word Cup 2025 has been creeping ever closer, creep creep creep... and now it's almost here. If you're not signed up yet, now is the time to rectify that. This is one tournament you definitely won't want to miss.
