Word Cup 2026 will be here before you know it

It feels like some version of this happens pretty much every year - the first few months on the calendar go flying by, you lose track of time, and the summer championship season arrives before you even know what hit you.

It's understandable. Scrabble life and real life both have a way of getting hectic. Time can fly by. Such is life - and such is 2026, apparently. It's already May! And sure enough, it's happening again. Word Cup 2026 is creeping up. It'll be here before you know it.

It feels like it was just yesterday that we announced our big summer championship, slated for Williamsburg, VA in early August. In reality, it was way back on January 5. At the time, we had all the time in the world before the tournament got underway - a whole 7 months. But then 7 months turned into 6... and then 5... and the time just kept creeping by. We now have a hair less than 3 months to go until tournament time.

If you're starting to think about your Word Cup plans, here's a rundown of the key dates to keep in mind...

• April 30: Deadline to register early and receive a free commemorative Word Cup T-shirt as a thank-you gift. This one just passed - sad! To those who did sign up early, thanks. To all others, we'll try and order a few extra shirts so you can still snag one at the tournament.

• May 31: The early entry fee discount goes away. If you register after this date, the buy-in ticks upward, from $200 to $250. So you'd best act quickly!

• June 30: Our hotel room block at the Williamsburg Lodge closes.

• July 26: Final deadline to sign up for Word Cup.

If it all feels like this is flying at you a little too fast, I can empathize. Life comes at you fast! And Scrabble does too. Plenty of people out there are busy planning their Causeways and their Albanys (Albanies?) and whatnot. There's always another tournament.

But Word Cup is still Word Cup. It's on the horizon too, and it's not one to be missed. So don't miss it! Start making your plans sooner rather than later.
