OVERVIEW

The World Blitz Scrabble Championship was a 13-week, bracket-style virtual tournament played online. 80 players from all over the globe competed in speed Scrabble matches. In the end, we crowned Will Anderson as the first ever World Blitz Scrabble Champion!

In the 9 weeks of pool play, players faced each other in a round robin, playing 9-game, 3-minute matches with 1 minute of overtime. The players were ranked within their groups by their match records, with individual game records and then spread used as tiebreakers. In each group, the top 2 players after completion of pool play advanced to the playoffs. The remaining 16 players advanced to single-elimination knockout rounds. The number of games in each playoff match escalated from 9 games to 11 (quarterfinals), 13 (semifinals), and 19 (finals).
