Seeking candidates for the second annual CoCo elections

It’s been an active and invigorating year for the CoCo and its inaugural board. Our first board stepped up in fall 2020. Early on, the Board developed a strategic plan to guide the organization in achieving specific goals for 2021. Since then, the Board has successfully steered the organization through the pandemic. They promoted a wide range of virtual offerings since last fall, including the BlitzChamps tournament, an ongoing weekly club, five one-day virtual tournaments, and a virtual CLABBERS tournament.

To make a return to live tournaments possible, the Board approved a COVID-19 policy that seeks to protect all our communities and minimize virus transmission. The Board oversaw an expansion of our live tournament scene, putting 10 tournaments on the calendar in cities from coast to coast. And, most importantly, they enabled the CoCo to officially incorporate as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The CoCo would not be where it is today without the leadership of its Board; thanks so much to Becky Dyer, Conrad Bassett-Bouchard, Evans Clinchy, Geoff Thevenot, Peter Armstrong, Puneet Sharma, and Steve Pellinen for all their contributions on the inaugural Board.

Today, we are soliciting candidates for one Executive Director and up to seven members for the Board of Directors. In 2022, the new Board will have the chance to take the CoCo in exciting new directions, including through potential partnerships with other organizations and possibly hosting a major large tournament. To learn more about how the Board functions and what the Executive Director does, head over to our Leadership page. If you’d like to shape where we go next and what our priorities for the Scrabble community are, it’s the perfect time to step up.

Each year, we hold democratic elections for leadership positions so that the CoCo’s members can speak to the future they want to see. We know that there are many players out there with ideas, energy, and a love of Scrabble. Our momentum, tournament calendar, and membership base are all growing. If you’d like to run for election, register as a candidate on our Elections page by Friday, Dec. 17.
