Word Cup Day 4: The race for the title is on

With only three games to go at Word Cup 2025, we're getting pretty close to crowning a champion. We're heading down the home stretch. It's looking like your winner will be...

...oh, jeez, I have no idea.

Wellington Jighere appears to be the favorite for now - he's a game up on the field with three left. But with a veritable horde of top experts still within a win or two of first place, this race is far too close to call.

Check out these standings:

1. Wellington Jighere (19-9, +1147)

2. Joshua Castellano (18-10, +444)

3. Dave Wiegand (17-11, +1349)

4. Austin Shin (17-11, +1322)

5. Alec Sjöholm (17-11, +822)

6. Enoch Nwali (17-11, +297)

7. Josh Sokol (17-11, +117)

8. Waseem Khatri (16.5-11.5, +262)

9. Sammy Okosagah (16-12, +861)

10. Eta Karo (16-12, +448)

Wellington is at 19 wins, but Josh can easily get to 19 himself, and the guys currently at 17 - especially Dave and Austin, with their massive spreads - can also pass Wellington if the right things break their way.

The pairings for round 29 are headlined by Wellington/Austin, Alec/Josh, and Dave/Enoch. Depending on how those games go, the championship picture could be headed for a shakeup. We might see those other contenders start to overtake Wellington if they catch some breaks - or we might see Wellington start to pull away.

Three rounds left. Get ready. Tomorrow's for all the marbles.
