Word Cup Day 4: Who will take home the title?
There's nothing quite like a dramatic final day at a major Scrabble championship. High drama at its finest. And, come tomorrow, it looks like that's exactly what we're going to get.
Will Anderson, who has led this tournament nearly from wire to wire, remains the favorite as we head into the final three rounds tomorrow morning. But the race is far from over. Will went 4-3 today, bringing his record to 19-9, but a veritable horde of competitors are still within a couple of games of first place. Olatunde Oduwole remains in second place, just one game back, followed by Joshua Castellano and Rob Robinsky each at 1.5 games off the pace. Any one of them can still win this thing.
Here's the leaderboard with three games to play:
1. Will Anderson (19-9, +1476)
2. Olatunde Oduwole (18-10, +819)
3. Joshua Castellano (17.5-10.5, +941)
4. Rob Robinsky (17.5-10.5, +743)
5. Matthew O'Connor (17-11, +722)
6. Enoch Nwali (16.5-11.5, +949)
7. Matthew Bernardina (16.5-11.5, +665)
8. Edgar Odongkara (16-12, +827)
9. Ben Schoenbrun (16-12, +501)
10. Adam Logan (16-12, +413)
The pairings tomorrow will start off with 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 5, and 3 vs. 6 - meaning Will/Rob, Olatunde/Matthew, and Josh/Enoch. All three of these games, obviously, will have a huge impact on the race tomorrow morning.
This is going to be a photo finish - nay, a YouTube finish.
Tune in tomorrow and watch, won't you?
