Word Cup Day 3: Will Will be caught?
Coming into Day 3 here at Word Cup in Williamsburg, this tournament looked like it was Will Anderson's to lose. At day's end, 7 games later, one thing is clear - he hasn't lost it yet.
Will's performance today wasn't exactly dominant - he turned in a modest 4-3 performance, including a couple of tough losses early in the day - but nobody else was able to put together a serious surge at the lead. With a 15-6 mark at the Monday dinner break, the man they call "wanderer15" has himself a healthy two-game lead over the rest of the field.
With 21 games down and 10 to go, here's where things stand:
1. Will Anderson (15-6, +1330)
2. Olatunde Oduwole (13-8, +406)
3. Joshua Castellano (12.5-8.5, +511)
4. Edgar Odongkara (12-9, +598)
5. Adam Logan (12-9, +487)
6. Matthew O'Connor (12-9, +443)
7. Mohammad Sulaiman (12-9, +292)
8. Ben Schoenbrun (12-9, +82)
9. Dennis Ikekeregor (12-9, +-473)
10. Enoch Nwali (11.5-9.5, +592)
Will's in a great position, but there are a whole lot of players still within three games of first. At this point, that's striking distance. We've got a lot of tournament left.
Tomorrow will obviously be pivotal. Will Will pull away from the pack and move ever closer to the title? Or will one or more of the players chasing him make a serious run at the top spot?
Tune in for Day 4 and find out.
