OVERVIEW

Word Cup is an annual Scrabble championship run by the Word Game Players' Organization (WGPO). This year, the CoCo is teaming up with WGPO to run the Collins divisions in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 27-31, 2024. The top prize in Division 1 is guaranteed to be $10,000!

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

  • Location: Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel, 2910 Yale Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106

  • Directors: Peter Armstrong, Rob Robinsky, Evans Clinchy

  • Games: 31

  • Parameters: WESPA rules, CSW21 lexicon, 5 points per word challenged

  • Divisions: This tournament will feature two divisions. Division 2 is open to players with an average peak rating below 1600. Division 1 is open to all players, with unlimited play-ups allowed.   • Prizes: Generous place and performance prizes will be awarded in both Collins divisions. A top prize of $10,000 is guaranteed in Division 1.

  • CSW Newcomer Prize: If you are qualified for CoCo Newcomer Discounts, then you're also qualified for the CSW Newcomer Prize at Word Cup. The newcomer placing highest in Division 2 will win $200, the next player will win $100, and the third best gets $50.

REGISTRATION

  • Main Event entry fee: $175 for adults; $85 for players under age 18. This fee increases by $25 after June 1. CoCo Premium Members can claim a $15 discount off the entry fee. You can learn about becoming a CoCo Premium Member here.

  • Early Bird entry fee: $30 for adults; $15 for players under age 18. You can learn more about the Early Bird here.

  • Commuter Fee: All players not staying at the hotel will be required to pay a $50 commuter fee. The directors will contact players at a later date with more information.

  • Refunds: Full refunds are available until July 19, minus a $5 processing fee.

  • Newcomer Discounts Program: If this will be your very first Scrabble tournament or your first rated Collins tournament, check out the CoCo’s Newcomer Discounts program to claim 100% or 50% off your entry fee!

  • CoCo membership: Every player who registers for this tournament will automatically become a basic CoCo member for free. You can learn about CoCo membership here.

SCHEDULE & LOGISTICS

  • Main Event: 31 games from Saturday, July 27 through Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Players will play seven games on each of the first four days, then three games on the final day of the tournament. Games will begin at 9:15 a.m. each day.

  • Early Bird: 5 games on Friday, July 26. You can learn more about the Early Bird here.
