Looking ahead to the 2024 CoCo tournament calendar

The calendar has turned to 2024, and you know what that means - it's time to get started on a whole new year of rousing Scrabble action. I don't know about you, but I'm raring to go! Now's the perfect time to scour the calendar, pick out some tournaments, and make plans to get out there and compete.

As you go about making your plans, I highly recommend you take a look at the CoCo tournament calendar and find a few events that fit your fancy. I assure you, you'll find a lot to choose from.

Namely...

The return of the Crescent City Cup

There's not a more fun tournament on the Scrabble calendar this year - or any year, for that matter - than the annual event down in New Orleans every January. And this January, we are thrilled to be co-sponsoring this CCC, the 12th annual. The event is just a few days away, and everyone is ready for a three-day weekend of Scrabble in the Big Easy.

As of this writing, we've got an even 40 Collins players signed up, including 24 in Division 1 and 16 in Division 2. There's a star-studded field, an incredible city, and a top-notch team of directors running the show. Absolutely nothing not to like.

A yearlong pub crawl across Portland

Here's an exciting new thing to look forward to in 2024 - in Portland, OR, players this year can look forward to playing a series of local tournaments at various breweries and pubs all across the city. There will be 10 tournaments in all - nine 1-day events, and one 2-day tournament in April - and at the end of the year, the players who earn the most tournament points will be crowned the winners of the yearlong series. The first tournament and the second one are already open for registration now.

It's a fun, innovative new idea for a tournament series - and plus, it means lots and lots of Scrabble. If you're in Portland, or anywhere near Portland, or just happen to like visiting Portland, you'll have a ton of opportunities to play Scrabble tournaments in 2024.

Your old favorites in Hood River and Austin

For those who enjoy the comfort of a familiar old favorite, we've got you covered there, too. Two of the original CoCo classics are returning in 2024, don't you worry.

In February, it's the return of the Hood River Open, which is back for the sixth time. A whole lot of the HORO regulars will be returning to the familiar old lodge, but a host of newcomers are joining us for the first time, too. It's sure to be a lively group.

And then in April, it's time to head down to Texas for the third annual Austin Tile X-Words (ATX) event. ATX is always a blast, but it's going to be especially special this year - players will get to play a 2-day Scrabble tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7, then follow that up by seeing a breathtaking total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. A great Scrabble tournament and a once-in-a-generation astronomical event - what more could you ask for?

More Scrabble in Slingerlands - including Champions Cup

For players on the East Coast, there will be no shortage of Scrabble opportunities available - especially if you're anywhere near Slingerlands, NY. We've got a pair of back-to-back 1-day tournaments coming up in Slingerlands in March, followed by the second installment of Champions Cup a month later.

If you don't yet have Champions Cup on your radar, you may want to change that - it's only the most competitive event in North America. With every single player sporting a peak rating of 1850+, this event guarantees a top-level opponent every single game. All weekend long, you'll be doing battle against the best of the best. If you qualify for this tournament, it's one you won't want to miss.

The return of Word Cup this summer

And finally, the big one!

We fully expect that this year's Word Cup, slated for the final weekend of July in Albuquerque, NM, will be the biggest and best Scrabble tournament on North American soil in 2024. And we're excited to be running the CSW division once again. Join us in the Land of Enchantment, and you can expect a big, competitive field of Collins players, five days of nonstop tournament action, and generous cash prizes - including $10,000 for first place!

This is one tournament you will absolutely not want to miss. So don't miss it. Head on over to our tournaments page and get signed up now.

And, for that matter, sign up for a few other events too. We're looking forward to quite the year of tournaments in 2024, and we're excited for you to be a part of it.
